With the goal of disseminating important water resource information and research findings, the Montana Water Center organizes and participates in, and supports a variety of conferences across the state, convening scientists, students, natural resource managers, and policy makers, from state and federal agencies, local and state government, Montana universities, non-profits, and the private sector.
ONGOING Conferences
Montana Chapter of the American Water Resources Association (MT AWRA) Annual Meeting - Held each fall in varying locations around the state, the annual MT AWRA meeting allows water resource professionals to connect, present their research, and discuss the latest developments in water resource issues in Montana. The Water Center co-organizes this annual meeting with the MT AWRA Board of Directors. (MT AWRA Conference Archives)
Gallatin Water Science Symposium (GWSS) - Initiated in 2025, this biennial conference brings together over 100 scientists, managers, students, and policy makers to share research and information to inform water science, management, and stewardship in the Gallatin Watershed. The Water Center co-organizes the GWSS with the Gallatin Water Collaborative, and MSU Water Quality Extension.
Clark Fork Science Forum (CFSF)- First held in 2023, the Forum is a now biennial conference focused on science and management in the Clark Fork Watershed. The Water Center has participated in the event since it’s inception and is co-organizing the 2026 CSFS in conjunction with the Clark Fork Coalition, USGS, Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and Montana Department of Environmental Quality.
Montana Aquatic Research Colloqium (MARC) - This biennial event brings together over seventy aquatic scientists and researchers to share new insights, provide research updates, and promote collaborative opportunities to keep Montana’s waters healthy for future generations. The Montana Water Center participates in and provides sponsorship for MARC.
PAST CONFERENCES
Montana Water Summit - Held for the first time in March 2017, the Montana Water Summit gathered 300 water resource professionals, academics, policy-makers, students, and stakeholders to discuss the challenges that climate change and population growth and development will present for Montana's future water supply.
